Make sure that the tool you get can punch an appropriately sized hole, which is usually one that’s about 2mm in diameter or smaller. You can find tools especially made for watch straps, but ones that also have lager bits for things like belt holes will often suffice.

I ended up punching two very small holes jointly to make them into one oval-shaped hole. Of course, some trimming needed to be done. Try it with Richemont and let us know?
Punching holes ruins the strap in my opinion. Just buy another strap that fits and put the strap that does not away so you can put it back on the watch if you ever trade or sell it. Got oval hole punch from eBay. Size is 4mm x 2mm. Price is about shipped. Since the hole is oblong. Tap the hole punch on the end to form it to the similar oblong shape and size. Use a cutting board as a base. You can indeed use a metal hammer.
